Always during and after his first steps in school, Holm has shown a particular tendency towards imaginative self-expression at the expense of formal education. This seeming Attention Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder, considered a defect in scholastic settings, which at times led him to a type of estranged alienation, proved to be and will continue demonstrating itself with time as an authentic and deeply personal method of approach to his artwork. The creative practice of storytelling distanced him from the so-called “pastimes” of childhood and brought Holm to realize his large narrative projects where the figures of his affections turned out to be his central protagonists. With time this exercise further distanced him from those principles of learning and logic, and the more participation and concentration that is required of him, the more his tendency to process certain information, thus zoning out and transforming all this into a narrative form appears to be urgent. He’s had the opportunity of discovering the world thanks to travels launched with his parents who have supported him all the way in his desires and curiosity.
Practicing athletics has taught him to be independent, to always be prepared and mentally organized, and to look after himself thanks to his experiences with sailing. This obsessive attention paid to sailing at the mere age of 13 has served greatly in Holm’s maturation and has given his character a structure, rendering him responsible towards the contingent reality he faces per diem. In the fashion world he initially began presenting himself in front of the camera as subject, wearing clothes or showing himself in studied poses or in spontaneous situations. After coming in contact with the world of photographic expression and finding himself fascinated by these optical means, he decided to explore the signature sensitivity of the camera. He began taking photographs of real-life scenes in the discothèques where he extracted images transmitting a spectacular performative tension, an intentionality that is always present in Holm’s work. This attending of discothèques as a hub of action and experimentation forces Holm to use a range of wildly violent colors based on the principles of contrast of light typical to certain types of public or private locations. Holm’s fashion world-based approach isn’t entirely random: because he can act in complete independence in terms of deciding on the subjects, outfits, makeup, and backgrounds, he prefers to work in this ephemeral world of fashion, where he can bring to life an aesthetic dream of diaphanous human forms assuming a symbolic guise. Always present in his work is a certain compositional “slant” which tends to enhance the genuine coloristic and formal sensitivity of the original scene.
A dream of linguistic autonomy compels Holm to pursue this principle of self-alienation with respect to the more streamlined photographic approach and the pre-formed paths laid out by the old masters of photography. Thanks to the work carried out in the clubs and initially with photography books and then finally with his true, genuine, fully realized fashion services, Holm has been able to financially support himself and his art, which he’ll first invest in the acquisition of photography materials and then for his studies in England.
During the year 2012 and 2013 Holm received two important international achievements: on 2012 at Palma, Spain, First prize at 34° Biennale Jeuenesse Papier, FIAP Under 21, and on 2013 at Vienna, Austria, First prize at 35° Youth Biennal Digital FIAP Under 21.
2013 and 2014 have been periods of reflection which have led Holm to enroll in Arts University Bournemouth in order to pursue a course in Commercial Photography. Currently, he is engaged in a program of study with the selfsame university which will allow him to receive his degree.
